Former MSNBC host Joy Reid said in an interview Thursday that she wouldn’t vote for a Democrat who doesn’t promise to end the U.S. relationship with Israel.
In his podcast interview with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, he began: “The Democratic Party is married to this Israel on everything. Israel, no matter what, no matter what they do, no matter how many people they kill, the Democrats were as married to it as the Republicans were. So it takes a really strong Democrat. It takes a Mamdani-style event for a Democrat to say they’re not satisfied with that.”
As Coates and Reid discussed the candidacy of former Vice President Kamala Harris, Coates said many Arab Americans and Muslim Americans voted for President Donald Trump in 2024 out of anger against the Biden-Harris administration.
“But to me, I can no longer vote for a Democrat who doesn’t promise to end this relationship. This relationship needs to end. This is a nuclear-armed expansionist power. They don’t need our money, and they certainly won’t get my vote.” clip marked By Mediaite.

JOY REID WARNES THAT TRUMP MAY TURN US MEDIA INTO A ‘NORTH KOREA’ STYLE PROPAGANDA MACHINE
Reid recently raged at the president at the “Stand Up, Sing: A Concert for the First Amendment” event; Here he made a speech condemning Trump’s “orange hole” effect on the media environment and warned, “The threat is not coming, friends, it is here.”
“Don Lemon arrested, Georgia Fort arrested, Terry Moran fired from ABC, Scott Pelley fired from CBS [sic] “There are far-right ideologues who bought it and handed it over to a bigot named Bari Weiss, who – she deserved to boo – may soon control CNN as well.” Reid warned in his speechWhile the crowd jeered Weiss’ mention.
After listing several other incidents involving high-profile media figures and networks, he said: “This is corporate media on its knees. A handful of billionaires are consolidating local stations, newspapers, national networks, turning American journalism into what they hope will be the US version of North Korea.”
Reid’s MSNBC show was canceled as part of a programming shakeup at the network in February 2025, before the network’s departure from NBC in November of last year.
JANE FONDA, WE WANT TO JOIN THE ‘NO TO KINGS’ PROTESTS
MSNBC became MS NOW after Comcast announced it would split its cable networks into its own company called Versant, separating the liberal network from sister broadcast network NBC, which would remain under the NBCUniversal umbrella.
Reid said in an interview earlier this month that he could no longer support the New York Giants after quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Donald Trump on stage.

“You know, as a Giants fan, I was really disgusted—now ex—because the truth is Donald Trump is not a normal president,” Reid told podcast host Jack Cocchiarella. “Donald Trump is not an American president. Donald Trump is a wannabe king. And we are on the 250th anniversary of our divorce from the king of England. And Donald Trump is trying to be a king.”
