Jaishankar, Iran FM Discuss Crisis as Protests Rock Tehran

Amid growing unrest in Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss the evolving security situation. Jaishankar confirmed the meeting in a post on channel X and said the two leaders reviewed developments in and around Iran.
This call follows an advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran, urging all Indian citizens, including students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists, to leave the country using available means, including commercial flights, as protests against the Khamenei regime intensify and the death toll rises to 2,500.
The embassy advised Indians in Iran to keep their passports and identity documents ready and keep in close touch with embassy officials for assistance. He also urged citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to remain vigilant, avoid protest sites, stay updated through local media and maintain communication with the mission.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar to immediately initiate evacuation efforts for Kashmiri students stranded in Iran, citing the rapidly deteriorating security environment.
The unrest, now in its 20th day, began due to rising inflation and the ongoing devaluation of the Iranian currency. The situation has worsened following violent clashes reported in more than 280 locations across the country.
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday publicly called on Iranian protesters to seize their institutions and said help was on the way, but did not provide further details. The next day, the Trump administration advised some personnel to evacuate the US-run Al Udeid Air Base as a precaution.
The advice came after Iran warned neighboring countries that host US military bases and threatened to attack American facilities if Washington launched an attack on Iranian territory.
