Comedian and impersonator Jamie Lever announced that he decided to take a short break from social media. Jamie made this announcement days after he faced intense backlash from netizens for a video he shared on social media impersonating Bigg Boss 19 contestant and social media influencer Tanya Mittal. The video was not well received by many social media users who thought she went overboard.
Speaking on Instagram on Thursday, Jamie spoke about his love for his job and the support he has received over the years. Describing how she has always worked with integrity and “brought joy” to people, she wrote: “Those who truly know me know how deeply I love my job and how honestly I do it. I am grateful to God for the gift of bringing joy to others, and I am forever grateful for the love I have received over the years.”
“I’ve learned on this journey that not everyone will cheer you on or laugh with you. Recent events have made me feel like I’ve lost a little piece of myself, this doesn’t come from anger, it comes from reflection,” she added. Jamie said he still loves entertaining people but needs time to “rest and reset”. Announcing her hiatus, she wrote: “I love what I do and will always entertain. For now, I’m taking some time to rest and reset. See you next year. Thank you for your love, prayers and support – always.”
Earlier this month, Jamie had shared a video on Instagram in which she reenacted Bigg Boss 19’s Tanya Mittal’s emotional moments. In the clip, Jamie mimicked Tanya’s expressions as she cut between scenes of the contestant crying on the show. While some viewers saw the video as comedy, many netizens were upset and accused Jamie of “mocking” Tanya’s appearance and her “emotional fragility”. The reaction grew rapidly on social media platforms.
