Jane Fonda protests Paramount merger at Oscars party over Trump fears

Actress Jane Fonda joined Paramount Skydance and CNN parent company Warner Bros. after the Oscars party on Sunday night. He protested the merger between Discovery (WBD).

Diversity He talked to Fonda about the “Block the Merger” badge she wore at the big Hollywood event to announce Paramount’s bid for the company. He emphasized that the merger could give the Trump administration some influence over CNN as WBD tries to move the deal forward.

“Mergers will be bad for workers,” Fonda said. “A lot of people will lose their jobs. Our prices will be higher. We will have political control over what we do. Fonda’s comments were in reference to her 10-year marriage to CNN founder Ted Turner from 1991 to 2001. Fonda emphasized that Turner founded CNN to be “trustworthy” and “not take positions.”

When asked, Fonda said she didn’t want to talk about her issues with Paramount CEO David Ellison or Warner Bros. He said he had not spoken to Discovery CEO David Zaslav. He noted that he spoke with Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos last year when his company offered to acquire WBD, but that was largely because the two were friends.

Fonda added that she opposes any merger, but reiterated that a merger with Paramount would be “problematic” because of President Donald Trump.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Paramount Skydance and WBD for comment.

Fonda previously wrote a column in The Ankler in December denouncing the sale of WBD to any company, claiming it was a danger to free speech and the entertainment industry.

“This merger threat is an alarming escalation of the consolidation crisis that threatens the entire entertainment industry, the public it serves, and potentially the First Amendment itself,” he wrote, insisting that Trump was “using anticipated mergers as a tool of political pressure and censorship.”

In a comment to Fox News Digital, White House spokesman Kush Desai said: “It’s been decades since anyone cared what Hanoi Jane had to say about anything, and the fact that she posted that she, in her words, ‘slept with the man who created’ doesn’t change that fact.”
