Jane Fonda takes a nasty swipe at Barbra Streisand over her Robert Redford tribute as new Hollywood feud is born

Jane Fonda took a swipe at Barbra Streisand and her late co-star Robert Redford at Sunday’s Oscars.
The 88-year-old actress was furious that Streisand, 83, was chosen to host the Academy Award ceremony for Redford, who died last year at 89, because she believed her working relationship with the actor was stronger.
The screen icon argued that while he made four films with the legend – Tall Story, The Chase, Barefoot In The Park and The Electric Horseman – it really should have been him on stage; whereas Streisand only starred in one film with him, The Way We Were, in 1973.
shouted in the background Fun Tonight. ‘I want to know how Streisand got there to do that for Redford. He’s only done one movie with her, I’ve done four!’
Fonda added that she had “more to say” about Redford and continued: “I was always in love with him.”
‘[He was] He was the most wonderful person and had great values. He has done a lot for films; It highlighted independent films.’
This goes to show that no matter what age you are, a fight can happen in Hollywood. On Oscar Sunday, a new feud was born between octogenarian icons Jane Fonda and Barbra Streisand.
And it was the end of the Academy’s tribute to Robert Redford, who died last year
Streisand honored Redford with a speech and singing performance during the In Memoriam portion of the awards ceremony.
Oscar-winning star Redford died in his sleep in September 2025, after a legendary career that spanned seven decades.
After reading the first script for ‘The Way We Were’, I could only imagine there was only one man in the role, and that was Robert Redford. But he turned it down because he said the character had no backbone,” he recalled of Redford.
‘He wasn’t defending anything and he was right. After many drafts, Bob finally agreed to do it. He was such a smart and masterful actor and we had a great time playing each other because we never quite knew what the other was going to do in a scene.’
Streisand also praised Redford. ‘He was thoughtful and brave,’ he shared. ‘I called him the little intellectual cowboy who made his own way. ‘I miss him more now than ever.’
The actor finished his words by singing the song The Way We Were from his movies.
When news of Redford’s death broke last year, Streisand shared an emotional statement on Instagram.
“Every day on the set of ‘The Way We Were’ was exciting, intense, and pure joy,” Streisand wrote in September. ‘We were so opposite; he was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them! ‘Still, we tried to learn more about each other, just like the characters in the movie.’

Streisand only starred in one film with him: 1973’s The Way We Were.
He continued: ‘Bob was charismatic, intelligent, intense, always engaging and one of the best actors ever. The last time I saw him, he came over for lunch and we talked about art and decided to send each other our first drawings. He was one of a kind and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him. #RobertRedford.’
Fonda and Redford have made four films together. 2017 Netflix movie Our Souls at Night.
Rachel McAdams paid tribute to the women who died, highlighting Diane Keaton.
‘Believe me when I say there isn’t an actress in my generation who hasn’t been inspired and moved by her absolute uniqueness,’ she said.

McAdams read a Girl Scout song and poem that Keaton sang on film sets: ‘Make new friends but keep the old ones. One is silver and the other is gold. The circle is round, it has no end. I’ll be your friend for this long.’
Billy Crystal remembered his best friend Rob Reiner in a long and emotional tribute at the Oscars on Sunday.
Crystal opened the episode, which was longer than usual due to the number of Hollywood heavyweights who have died in the past year.
Crystal first met Reiner in 1975 when he was a guest on the show ‘All in the Family’.
“I want to know how Streisand got out there doing that for Redford,” Fonda told the site. ‘He only did one movie with her, I did four!’
“And it all went so well,” Crystal said. “Rob said, ‘It was so much fun playing your best friend, why don’t we keep going?’ he said. ‘And it’s been exciting to see him evolve from a great comic actor to a master storyteller.’
Crystal narrated Reiner’s films such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, Say Everything and This is Spinal Tap.
The episode ended with more than a dozen stars from those films (including Meg Ryan, Kiefer Sutherland, Fred Savage, Demi Moore, John Cusack, and Ione Skye) standing together on stage.
Actor-director Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home last December. Their son, Nick Reiner, was charged with his parents’ deaths and pleaded not guilty.
