Luxembourg gets new grand duke as his father abdicates

Grand Duke Guillaume swore to rise to the throne of Luxembourg with a traditional ceremony attended by Royals and European heads of state.

Church bells, just before hundreds of crowds outside the big palace, “Guillaume, Guillaume!” The new Grand Duke walked to a balcony to greet his new topics.

The 43 -year -old Grand Duke Guillaume was surrounded by the royal family, including his wife Grand Duchess Stéphanie, who wears a military uniform of olive green with a yellow wing.

Guillaume has been the seventh Grand Duke of Luxembourg since 1890, when modern monarchy was founded.

On Saturdays and Sundays, he will visit the new world, a small shop of 700,000 citizens in the heart of Europe.

The tour will end with a market mass at the Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich and Catholic Notre-Dame de Luxembourg Cathedral.
