Jane’s Addiction call it quits after a tumultuous 15 months: ‘The legacy will remain’ | Jane’s Addiction

US alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction announced that they parted ways after 15 months of fights, accusations and lawsuits.

The veteran California band, who have a history of drama, dust-ups and meltdowns, prematurely ended the US leg of their reunion tour in September last year after an onstage brawl between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro in Boston led to blows and an eventual $10 million lawsuit.

In a statement posted on Instagram on Wednesday, the band wrote: “We came together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work created by the four of us together. We now look to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors.”

Wednesday’s statement, ostensibly written by Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins, referenced the September 2024 incident: “After this show, without notifying Perry, we unilaterally decided it would be best not to continue the tour and made false statements about Perry’s mental health that we regret.”

One of the expressions mentioned could be: Posted by Navarro She took to Instagram following the controversy, which was signed by herself, Avery, and Perkins. “Due to our singer Perry Farrell’s ongoing behavior and mental health issues, we have concluded that we have no choice but to end his current US tour,” the statement said. “Our concerns for his personal health and safety, as well as our own, left us with no alternative. We hope he will find the help he needs.”

Farrell apologized at the time, acknowledging it in a statement: “…it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, and my fans, family, and friends for my behavior during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full responsibility for how I chose to handle the situation.”

In July of this year, Navarro, Avery and Perkins filed a $10 million lawsuit against Farrell, claiming that Farrell’s “repeated and unprovoked” onstage attack on Navarro caused significant harm to the band due to the cancellation of tour dates and a planned album.

Farrell responded with his own legal complaint, accusing his bandmates of years of bullying and harassment.

The group’s amicable statement on Wednesday suggests legal proceedings may not be taken after all.

Separately expression Farrell apologized again for his behavior during the Boston concert, posting on his and the band’s Instagram accounts on Wednesday: “I’ve thought about it and know I didn’t conduct myself properly. I apologize to our bosses and bandmates for losing my temper and disrupting the show.”

“Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades,” the former frontman continued. “The band, the songs, the customers, and the impact we’ve had on the music and culture mean more to me than any words I could write. My goal has always been to give our audiences the best show possible, something real, honest, and positive. We fell short in that regard in Boston, and I’m truly sorry to anyone affected.”

Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, Jane’s Addiction helped define alternative rock with their first two studio albums, 1988’s Nothing’s Shocking and 1990’s Ritual de lo Habitual – the latter of which featured the hit track Been Caught Stealing. But the band was plagued from the start by internal tensions and the members’ struggles with heroin addiction, and they decided to call it quits in 1991, when the inaugural Lollapalooza festival, which Farrell co-founded, became their unofficial farewell tour.

The members went on to do other projects, including a stint with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for Navarro, but would occasionally reunite over the next two decades in various iterations of the original lineup, including a reunion tour in 2001 that led to their third studio album, Strays, and a 2009 tour with Nine Inch Nails.

The reunion tour in 2024 marked the first time the band’s original members performed together since 2010.
