TOKYO, Jan 26 (Reuters) – Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s administration saw its approval rating fall from 75% to 67% in December, according to a poll conducted by the Nikkei newspaper and TV Tokyo over three days through Sunday.

Takaichi’s approval rating fell below 70% for the first time since he was sworn in as prime minister in October, Nikkei reported Sunday.

The percentage of people who say they do not support Takaichi’s administration rose to 26 percent from 18 percent in the previous survey in December.

A total of 56% said they did not think Takaichi’s stimulus package, designed to cushion the blow of rising living costs, would be effective, compared with 38% who thought it would have a positive impact.

Takaichi called for early general elections on 8 February to accelerate expansionary fiscal policy; The move triggered a rise in bond yields on market concerns that Japan might have to issue additional debt.
