Over 100 Typhoid Patients Hospitalized In Gandhinagar

gandinagar : Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday reviewed the situation at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital after 104 patients, including children, were admitted to the hospital with suspected typhoid fever. Officials said that typhoid cases have increased in the Civil Hospital in the last three days and 104 patients have been admitted to the pediatric ward.
Sanghavi said senior officials, including the deputy collector, have been asked to assess the situation in the hospital and arrangements such as food and other amenities have been made for the families of admitted patients. He said a team of 22 doctors has been formed to treat the patients.
Sanghavi added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had discussed the situation with the district collector over phone three times and would review it again in the evening.
“Currently, 104 suspected cases have been reported. The management is constantly strengthening treatment and monitoring arrangements. Efforts are ongoing to provide better facilities to patients and their families,” he said.
Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Mita Parikh said that several people, including children from Sectors 24, 25, 26 and 28 as well as Adivada area in Gandhinagar, were hospitalized and their condition was stable.
He informed that water samples were collected from these areas and reports showed that the drinking water was unsafe (for consumption).
The health department of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has started a door-to-door survey in the affected sectors, officials said.
“People have been advised to drink boiled water and eat home-cooked food. The civic body is also distributing chlorine tablets for cleaning water tanks,” they said.
