Jeff Bezos’ ex wife’s philanthropy under fire? MacKenzie Scott’s donations worth billions spark controversy as organisations face FBI investigations over Hamas ties

MacKenzie Scott, billionaire philanthropist and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated more than $7 billion, making her one of the most generous philanthropists alongside fellow billionaires Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates and Warren Buffett. Last year, Mackenzie Scott’s total giving since 2020 rose to $26 billion and more than 2,700 gifts. But a report by Fortune alleges that Scott may have donated millions of dollars to a funding network supporting organizations facing FBI and congressional investigations for alleged ties to Hamas. Last year, MacKenzie Scott reportedly donated $5 million to Solidaire Network through her charity Yield Giving, and $10 million in 2021.

Solidaire Network describes itself as an organization that connects social movements with donors to build systems based on love and justice. But tax records and press releases reviewed by Fortune showed the network funded groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine and American Muslims in Palestine. Her philanthropic organization, Yield Giving, donated to Solidaire Network, which “nurtures relationships between social movements and their members to create regenerative systems grounded in love and justice,” according to a Dec. 9 blog post written by MacKenzie Scott.

According to Solidaire Network’s tax returns and press releases, this means in practice that the network funds organizations such as Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), US Palestine Community Network, and Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM). The report states that both organizations, SJP and AMP, face investigations in the House of Representatives and the Senate for allegedly collaborating with the terrorist group Hamas to launch anti-Israel protests in the United States.

MacKenzie Scott’s charity donations under scanner

MacKenzie Scott has come under scrutiny for her significant donations to certain organizations. MacKenzie Scott’s financial contributions were revealed to be linked to organizations being investigated by the FBI and Congress for alleged ties to Hamas. Both organizations are under investigation by the US House and Senate over allegations that they worked with Hamas to organize anti-Israel protests across the US.

According to Fortune, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee sent a letter in May 2024 to the executive director of the American Muslim Association in Palestine, raising concerns that groups spreading pro-Hamas messages and allegedly breaking the law on college campuses may be receiving funding from sources affiliated with Hamas or other terrorist organizations. The Oversight and Accountability Committee is “particularly concerned that organizations that disseminate pro-Hamas propaganda and engage in illegal activities in institutions of higher education may be receiving funding or other support from foreign or domestic sources that support the objectives of Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations,” according to the committee’s May 29, 2024 letter to Osama Abuirshaid, AMP’s executive director.
The report also stated that US Senator Tom Cotton requested the FBI to investigate the Palestinian Youth Movement in September 2025 and stated that the group was hostile to the Jewish people. Cotton’s request followed statements by the organization’s leader, Aisha Nizar, urging her supporters to disrupt the US F-35 fighter jet supply chain. In a statement shared by Fortune, Cotton said such remarks amounted to encouraging violence against U.S. national security interests by encouraging actions against individuals involved in the construction of the F-35 and attempting to jeopardize the delivery of a key strategic defense asset.
“Nizar’s statements constitute a direct incitement of violence against the national security interests of the United States by advocating actions against the men and women who built the F-35 and seeking to jeopardize the delivery of one of the nation’s most strategic assets,” Cotton said in a statement.

Mackenzie Scott’s donations

Mackenzie Scott’s current net worth is approximately $40 billion, most of which she earned from her divorce from Bezos in 2019. Most of his donations in 2025 went to causes focused on DEI, disaster recovery and higher education. But a gift he gave last year sparked some controversy. Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife recently reduced her stake in the company by almost 50% to donate to charity.

With an estimated net worth of about $40 billion, largely derived from her divorce settlement with Bezos, Scott is among the world’s biggest philanthropists, along with Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates and Warren Buffett.

It is important to note that in addition to the groups currently under review, the Solidaire Network also funds other progressive groups working on racial and gender equality, climate change, and economic justice. Scott was also just one of more than 280 people who donated to Solidaire Network in 2021. “Funding social movements while transforming our own relationship with wealth is clearly the path to philanthropy. MacKenzie’s generous, unconditional gift honors our bold ambitions for our collective work,” Solidaire Network said.
