Jeff Bezos Makes Major Financial Decision After Report He & Lauren Sanchez Are Going to Court For Money

Jeff Bezos probably makes big financial decisions every day. Bezos, known as the founder of Amazon, is after all one of the richest men in the world. And the fact that every little thing he does is scrutinized comes from that, of course, but it also comes from the personal drama that people feel themselves in. After living in Miami for two years with his wife, Lauren Sánchez, he sold his mansion in Seattle. And the numbers are staggering. Puget Sound Business Journal First reported the property sold for $63 million.

This property was one of the properties Bezos purchased in 2019. Bezos originally bought it for $37.5 million, meaning he made more than $25 million from the sale. It’s located in the Hunts Point neighborhood in King County, overlooking Lake Washington and about seven miles from Amazon Headquarters in downtown Seattle. It looks like Bezos doesn’t anticipate the need to return to the company’s headquarters anytime soon.
Part of this may have to do with the fact that Amazon appears to be shedding its shares, so much so that today Ownership stake in Amazon It is less than 10%. In a statement this year, Bezos said he owned 9.6% of the company’s outstanding shares. He divested over 100 million shares last year alone. Last year, Bezos owned 10.1 percent of the company. When the company went public in 1997, he had a 43% stake.
No matter how much things have changed for Bezos, it is important to remember that his net worth is still over $220 billion. So he’s not exactly strapped for money, but that obviously doesn’t mean he doesn’t try to earn more whenever possible. For example, in court.
This all happened in the midst of a still-ongoing legal battle with his wife’s estranged brother, Michael Sánchez. This is all connected to reports that Bezos and Sánchez are having an affair; this relationship first came to light while Sánchez was married to Patrick Whitesell. The reports included X-rated photos from private messages that Sánchez’s brother was accused of at the time.
Michael Sánchez denied all the accusations, called his sister and Bezos “liars and cheaters” and even sued them for defamation. However, the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in Bezos’ favor and required Amazon founder Sánchez to cover all legal claims.
Page Six Bezos’ legal team filed a motion with the California Supreme Court requesting that Michael Sánchez pay $182,374 in attorneys’ fees and $8,182 in legal fees “incurred in connection with (1) the successful Private Strike Motion and (2) Attorneys’ Fees and Expenses incurred in connection with that Motion,” Bezos’ legal team said.
25 million for a house, almost 200 thousand in lawyer fees. It may not be close to the same number, but it’s clear that Bezos still thinks like a businessman.
