Former Biden White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during an interview at Harvard University in October that her successor Karine Jean-Pierre’s new memoir was “outdated.”

Psaki, who was former President Joe Biden’s press secretary before Jean-Pierre, said, “I can say that the book is out of date. I have read the book. In this sense, this is the difficulty of publishing a book, because the book is published months ago, so you finish writing the book months before it comes out.” during conversation On October 27.

Psaki, who currently hosts MSNBC, noted the pressure against the Trump administration in recent months through protests and Democratic lawmakers’ support for a government shutdown to get Republicans to vote to extend Obamacare subsidies. The shutdown officially ended Thursday after becoming the longest shutdown in history.

In October, Jean-Pierre published his book, “Independent: A Look Inside the Broken White House, Outside Party Lines.” The former press secretary revealed in the book that he was leaving the Democratic Party, noting Biden’s treatment of him following his debate against President Donald Trump, which ultimately led to Biden’s departure.

Psaki said of her party’s current state: “I don’t think you can look at the country and see 7 million people coming out to protest across the country (peaceful protests) or activists in their streets and in their communities, the military and ICE showing up, and you think the country is asleep or the Democratic Party is asleep.”

He added, “I don’t believe that. I think there’s more work to be done, I mean by elected officials and a range of people, but I think it’s kind of a misreading of what the reactions are.”

Dee Dee Myers, who served as press secretary during the Clinton administration, spoke alongside Psaki and offered what she said was a “cautionary tale” about Jean-Pierre’s book.

“I haven’t read the book, but the only thing I would add is that it’s a bit of a cautionary tale. You walk out of the White House, it’s an incandescent, angry, hot environment, and you get a lot of emotions. And I’m thinking of writing a book right away that probably wouldn’t be highly recommended to anyone,” he said.

He suggested waiting and processing the experience before writing.

Jean-Pierre insisted in multiple interviews promoting the book that he saw no signs of decline in Biden during his time as press secretary.

His claim was met with skepticism during interviews on CBS, including by late-night host Stephen Colbert, a staunch supporter of Biden.

“I don’t question his heart or his policies, but it takes more than that to be president of the United States,” Colbert said during the Oct. 20 interview. “In a moment where we were under a lot of pressure on stage, we saw someone shock and worry us. And nothing can alleviate that anxiety. So when other people say, ‘We don’t think we’re being shown the Joe Biden you’re seeing,’ I don’t think that’s necessarily a betrayal of Joe Biden.”
