IndiGo update: Airline targets 1,650 flights today, full waiver extended till Dec 15; CEO says ‘we are getting back’

IndiGo on Sunday, December 7, issued a fresh update on mass flight cancellations and delays plaguing many of the country’s airports, amid efforts to stabilize the situation as quickly as possible.

The airline said it aims to operate 1,650 flights throughout the day as it works to stabilize its network due to ongoing mass cancellations and delays in flight operations.

To ease the inconvenience experienced by passengers, the airline has extended its full waiver of rescheduling and cancellation fees until December 15. As the disruptions continued, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers told airline staff that the carrier was “back on track.”

Despite the recent relaxation of flight duty time limits, major disruptions to air travel continued across the country on Sunday, with nearly 600 flights canceled this morning.

The worst impacts were seen at major metropolitan airports (especially in Hyderabad, Kolkata and Delhi), where most of the cancellations took place.

Here is the list of status update

— The airline informed its passengers that 137 of its 138 airport destinations are back operating at full capacity following the pilot shortage crisis that disrupted its operations.

— IndiGo also said the low-cost carrier is on track to operate more than 1,650 flights on Sunday, December 7, a significant increase from the 1,500 flights operated on Saturday.

— IndiGo said its on-time performance improved to around 70% today, a sharp improvement from around 30% on the previous day, indicating that operations are gradually getting back on track.

— Passengers have been assured by the airline that it will provide full waivers on ticket cancellations and rescheduling, provided the bookings are for travel through December 15, 2025.

— The airline also said that the refund and baggage process for affected customers is still fully ongoing.
