Jets’ Aaron Glenn defends Justin Fields after poor play vs Broncos

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn had a tense exchange with a reporter Sunday following the team’s 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos in London.

The reporter asked about Justin Fields’ status as the starting quarterback due to his performance against the Broncos as well as his struggles through the first six weeks. The team was minus 10 passing yards as Fields couldn’t do anything in the air or on the ground.

He was 9/17 for 45 passing yards and was sacked nine times.

“Come on, man. What kind of a question is that?” Here’s what Glenn said when asked if Fields would be the starter for the Week 7 dance with the Carolina Panthers: Athletic.

“There are some guys, I mean, this league is like that sometimes, and there are guys who have bad games. That doesn’t mean you leave them on the bench. Come on, you know better than that.”

Senior quarterback Tyrod Taylor is Fields’ backup. Rookie Brady Cook is on the practice squad.

New York fell to 0-6 with the loss to the Broncos. The offense ranks 25th in points scored and 28th in yards gained. The team seemingly showed signs of improvement in losses against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Although the Panthers appeared to have an easy win in the previous weeks, Bryce Young tuned in on Carolina’s offense and led them to an upset win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6.
