A legendary astronaut, who commanded the 13 -month mission, died at the age of 97 at the age of 97.
After an oxygen tank exploded, Jim Lovell safely brought back the crew and helped to turn the 1970 unsuccessful Moon mission into success.
NASA manager Sean Duffy announced that the commander passed and the astronaut’s life and work ‘inspired millions of people for decades’, he said.
“Jim’s character and stable courage helped our nation to reach the moon and turned a potential tragedy into a tremendous success,” he said. “ Even when celebrating his achievements, we mourn his passage.
‘From a pair of pioneering twin mission to Apollo’s achievements, Jim helped our nation to create a historical way in space that carries the artemis mission of our nation approaching the moon and beyond.’
Lovell was veteran of four space flights: Gemini VII, Gemini XII, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13.
He was born in Ohio, graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and became a test pilot.
Lovell served as a flight instructor and security guard until 1963, when NASA chosen her for a crew space program.
Jim Lovell, the veteran of the four space mission, helped to turn a failed month mission into success by safely bringing the crew back after an oxygen tank exploded.
With Lovell, Frank Borman and William Anders, the 1968 Apollo 8 crew, the Earth’s orbit and the first person to fly to the moon and the first person to draw circles.
Although they could not go to the surface of the moon, the tasks still put the US in front of the Soviets in the space race.
Letter writers said that the history of the crew ‘Pale Blue Dot’ photo helps to abolish America during the turbulent year.
That year, he saw the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert F Kennedy, a widespread protests for the TET attack in Vietnam and the Vietnam War and Civil Rights.
Three astronauts publish a reading to a worldwide television viewer of Jesus about birth.
Each of which reads the chapters of the first 10 verses of Genesis, indicating a historical moment in space research and a cultural touchstone.
As the command module for the ‘Apollo 8 pilot, Jim and the crew were the first person in the orbit of the moon and proved that the moon descent was in our hands, Duffy shared.
‘As Apollo 13 Mission Commander, he helped to safely return the calm power under pressure to the Earth in a safe way and showed quick thinking and innovation that informs the future NASA missions.’
Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks played Lovell in director Ron Howard’s famous 1995 film ‘Apollo 13’.

The Apollo 13 task, which was planned as the third month descent, was short cut when an oxygen tank in the service module exploded.
The explosion, which was roughly on the flight, has seriously damaged the spacecraft and overturned the life support and electrical systems of the command module.
“ Thought, because we were in trouble. But we never focused on, ‘said Lovell NASA in an interview.
‘We never confessed to ourselves,’ hey, we won’t do that. ‘Only once – when Fred looked … We learned that the Moon module and we have about 45 hours of power and we were 90 hours from home. ‘
Lovell and his crew, working in close cooperation with Mission Control, disabled an explosion spacecraft after crippling the moon module quickly adapted to a lifeguard boat quickly saved Apollo 13.
The resources and motors of the module relied on critical challenges such as limited oxygen, low power and increasing carbon dioxide levels, and to return to the Earth safely.
People around the world were fascinated by events in space and received a happy ending.
Apollo 13 was almost convicted when he tried to descend to the moon, but the crew improvised improvisation and returned to the world safely (in the picture)
On April 17, 1970, the astronauts changed the course to fly around the moon and the world, which splashed to the Pacific Ocean near Samoa.
This unforgettable astronaut, known for his intelligence, was called Smilin Jim by his astronauts, because he was fast, especially when he had a funny return, Duff Duffy said.
‘Jim served our country in the army and the navy lost a proud academy graduate and testing pilot.
‘Jim Lovell embodied the brave decision and optimism of both the past and future explorers, and we will always remember it.’
Loovell, who later retired in 1973 as an astronaut, retired in his honor as an astronaut, first worked at a port pull company, then worked in telecommunication.
Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks starred director Ron Howard’s famous 1995 film ‘Apollo 13’.
The film was inspired by Lovell’s 1994 book ‘Lost Moon: Apollo 13’s Dangerous Journey’.
Lovell remembered a meeting where Howard and the director asked which actor would want to play on the astronot.
“ Kevin Costner I said, ” said Lovell. ‘And Hanks never let me forget it … But Hanks did a great job.’
Lovell made a Kameo appearance in the film as the commander of the US Navy ship, which took back the astronauts and shook hands with Hanks.
Lovell had four children with his wife Marilyn, who died in 2023.
