Jimmy Kimmel calls Time’s ‘Architects of AI’ the ‘eight dorks of the apocalypse’

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel ripped off Time magazine’s 2025 Person of the Year cover featuring “Artificial Intelligence Architects” and referred to the eight-person roster of tech CEOs as the “eight fools of the apocalypse.”
Kimmel appeared on Thursday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” started the department. In the dramatic reveal of Time’s Person of the Year, not only the selection of winners was criticized but also the overall design of the cover, which it said looked like “Photoshop from 2007”. The cover featured Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, xAI’s Elon Musk, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, AMD’s Lisa Su, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, and Stanford and World Labs’ Fei-Fei Li.
“Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg, and five other non-standard tech sisters and brothers who are the architects of artificial intelligence have been named Person of the Year,” Kimmel told his audience, which booed in response.

The late-night host said he was “expecting more enthusiasm” from the crowd before continuing to blast “AI Architects.”
“They call them architects. I wonder if it’s customary for an architect to have no idea how a building he’s designing works or if he’s going to wake up one day and try to kill them.” he asked.
A common concern among critics of artificial intelligence (AI) is that the technology will eventually take over jobs performed by humans. Kimmel welcomed the idea, noting the irony of “people replacing people” winning Person of the Year this year.

Shifting his focus to the cover art, Kimmel told the show’s producers to “take that cover off for a second” so they could get back to roasting it.
“I want to say, ironically, that as far as you can do it graphically with AI, it’s like Photoshop in 2007,” he quipped.

According to Time, digital artist Jason Seiler’s work is “an homage to the famous 1932 photograph of construction workers on a steel beam 800 feet above the RCA building in New York City.”
