Anthony Albanese pledges $2 million for Christmas food aid for struggling families

The Labor Government has announced a massive $2 million in food and supplies aid across Australia this Christmas to support families in “financial crisis”.

The funding comes to support Australians who are “struggling”, particularly those experiencing high-risk weather conditions.

“No one should have to choose between putting food on the table or paying their bills, especially during the holiday season,” Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said in a statement.

Christmas support for Australians in need means those living in remote and regional areas will receive more food parcels and food hampers this festive season.

This is because the additional funding will allow providers to increase existing services, including sourcing, transporting and distributing food and material aid to more than 180 Commonwealth-funded emergency assistance providers across the country.

Food aid providers include: Foodbank Australia, SecondBite and OzHarvest and national Material Aid provider: Good360.

This funding builds on the Albanian Government’s 25 per cent contribution to food aid and financial wellbeing funds to help Australians get through difficult times.
