Tulsi Gabbard resigns as DNI over husband’s rare bone cancer diagnosis

SPECIAL: According to information obtained by Fox News Digital, Tulsi Gabbard is resigning as Director of National Intelligence to support her husband in his fight against “an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”

Gabbard reported the situation to President Trump at the meeting in the Oval Office on Friday. His last day at ODNI is expected to be June 30.

Fox News Digital exclusively obtained Gabbard’s official resignation letter, in which she said she was “deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the past year and a half.”

“Unfortunately, I have to submit my resignation effective June 30, 2026,” he wrote. “My husband Abraham was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”

Gabbard said her husband “faces tremendous challenges in the weeks and months ahead.”

“I have to step away from public service right now to be with him and give him my full support in this fight,” he said.

“Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage, standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, my many political campaigns, and now my service in this role,” Gabbard added.

“His strength and love sustained me through every challenge,” he continued. “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this challenge alone while I continue in this challenging and time-consuming position.”

Gabbard said she had “made significant progress by providing unprecedented transparency at ODNI and restoring the integrity of the intelligence community” but acknowledged “there is still important work to be done.”

“I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and comprehensive transition in the coming weeks so that you and your team do not experience any disruption in leadership or momentum,” he said.

“We thank you for your understanding during this deeply personal and difficult time for our family.”

Gabbard added: “I will be forever grateful to you and the American people for the profound honor of serving our nation as DNI.”

As DNI, Gabbard launched a transformational effort to reshape the Intelligence Community; reduced the size of the agency, saving taxpayers more than $700 million annually; elimination of DEI programs at IC; and more.

As of this month, Gabbard has declassified more than half a million pages of government records, including those related to the Trump-Russia investigation, the JFK and RFK assassinations, and more.

Gabbard also declassified documents tied to the origins of the Trump-Russia “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation, claiming they show Obama administration officials politicized intelligence on Russia’s 2016 election interference and used it to undermine Trump’s first presidential victory.

Meanwhile, Gabbard launched the first “Weaponization Working Group,” aimed at coordinating efforts across the federal government to expose the Biden Admin’s weaponization of the government.

As DNI, Gabbard’s National Counterterrorism Center prevented more than 10,000 people with ties to narco-terrorism from entering the country in 2025 and placed more than 85,000 people with similar ties on the terrorism watch list.
