Florida heat death: Toddler, 2, dies at Hallandale Beach after allegedly being left in car by babysitter

During the northern hemisphere’s record-breaking summer, a little boy died after he was allegedly left locked in a car by his babysitter in a beach parking lot in the United States.

The two-year-old boy died at Hallandale Beach on Sunday afternoon local time. Sunprompting an urgent warning from local police.

First responders reached the unresponsive two-year-old at 1:35 p.m. local time after receiving a report that a child was locked inside a vehicle.

The child who was taken to the hospital never regained consciousness.

The weather service said the temperature in Hallande at the time was between 31 and 32 degrees, but high humidity in the area pushed the possible temperature outside the vehicle to around 38 degrees.

The Hallandale Beach Police Department said the child was in the care of a caregiver at the time of the incident and an investigation was launched.

“This is a heartbreaking loss and our thoughts are with the child’s family and everyone affected by this tragedy,” the police department said in a statement.

“We also want to take this moment to remind every parent, guardian, and caregiver in our community: Always check the back seat before locking your vehicle and driving away.

“The temperature inside a parked car can rise to dangerous levels within minutes, even on not particularly hot days. One last look before closing the door could save a child’s life.”

The tragedy occurred just a week after a similar incident in the same state in which an 18-month-old child was accidentally left inside a car in similar Florida temperatures.

The father reportedly thought he had accidentally dropped his child off at daycare, but hours later made a devastating discovery inside the vehicle.

While the death rate from children being locked in cars has fallen significantly in Australia, up to 38 children die in hot vehicles each year in America.
