Rapist handed fresh sentence for raping a second girl 25 years ago | UK | News

The imprisoned rapist, who “sexually abused children in the most horrific way”, was sentenced to another 3 years in prison for raping a girl 25 years ago. Predator Sageer Hussain, 40, who was already serving a 19-year prison sentence for raping a girl, was sentenced to a further three years in prison for raping a second girl, following an investigation by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

At that time, Hussein and the girl were about 14 years old. The girl was seeing Hussein in Rotherham town centre. In one incident between 2000 and 2002, Hussain took the girl to an alley, where he told her he wouldn’t let her out unless she had sex with him. She refused, but the man raped her.

Officers from Operation Stovewood, the NCA’s investigation into allegations of sexual abuse in Rotherham that began in 2014, contacted the victim after determining she may have been sexually abused as a child.

The woman told officers what Hussain had done to her and officers identified supporting evidence.

Operation Stovewood investigators later arrested Hussain and charged him in February 2024. Hussain was already in prison at the time, serving a 19-year sentence for rape and other sexual offenses identified in a separate investigation by South Yorkshire Police.

Hussein was found guilty on July 23, following a trial in which both defendants were found guilty of raping a different girl.

Kessur Ajaib, 44, and Mohammed Makhmood, 43, both from Rotherham, were convicted of raping another 14-year-old girl over two years starting in 1999. They were between 18 and 20 years old at the time.

Hussain was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday. His additional three years in prison will run consecutively to his current sentence. Ajaib and Makhmood are expected to be sentenced on November 21.

NCA senior investigating officer Alan Hastings said: “The victim showed tremendous strength and fortitude in reporting what Sageer Hussain did to her.

“The woman bravely told officers of Hussain’s horrific crime against her, which significantly assisted our investigation. Officers subsequently identified corroborating evidence which enabled us to secure justice for the woman.

“Hüseyin, who was imprisoned for raping another girl, will now remain in prison for a longer time.

“Reporting child sexual abuse can be daunting, but there are specially trained officers standing by to help victims and seek justice for them if they feel ready. I would encourage victims to contact the police, no matter how long ago the sexual abuse occurred.”

The NCA’s Operation Stovewood remains the largest investigation of its kind, looking into allegations of abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

To date, 49 people, including Hussein, have been convicted and sentenced to a total of more than 1,500 years in prison.

Liz Fell, specialist prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service’s Organized Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, said: “These men deliberately exploited the youth and vulnerability of the victims to manipulate and control them. “They sexually abused the victims, who were children, in the most horrific manner.

“The treatment these young girls were subjected to was appalling; they were attacked in remote areas and subjected to humiliation and verbal abuse.

“I would like to thank both women for their courage in coming forward and engaging in the investigation and prosecution. Their evidence was vital in building our case and delivering justice after all these years.

“The Crown Prosecution Service will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to support all victims of child sexual abuse as we pursue justice on their behalf.”
