Two killed in suspected boiler blast at Dakshin Energy plastic unit in Parawada near Visakhapatnam

Two workers lost their lives in an explosion at the Dakshin Energy unit in Parawada Industrial Park in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The deceased were B. Trinadh (24) of Jagannapeta in Atchutapuram mandal and V. Venkatesh (34) of Govada in Anakapalli. Police said about seven people worked in the unit, but only two of those killed were on the night shift when the explosion occurred.

Boiler explosion suspected

The unit produces plastic pyrolysis oil and carbon black from waste plastic. Parawada Sub-Divisional Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Mohan Rao said the explosion is suspected to have occurred during the processing of waste plastic for pyrolysis oil. Hindu.

Mr. Mohan Rao said pyrolysis oil is usually made by heating plastic waste to high temperatures and the explosion took place in the boiler. He said the reason is not yet known and will be resolved only after investigation by the Factories department.

The explosion caused a fire that sent thick smoke and flames into the sky and caused panic in the industrial area. Inspector L. Bhaskar Rao of Parawada police station said that the explosion took place around 5.30 am. As soon as the news reached, police and fire brigade teams were called and four fire trucks from Anakapalli and Parawada rushed to the spot. It took firefighters more than 90 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Anakapalli District Collector Vijaya Krishnan monitored the response and directed officials to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby units. Anakapalli Police Chief Tuhin Sinha, who reached the scene, told the police personnel to help at the scene.

Leaders expressed their condolences, an investigation was ordered

Minister of Labor Vasamsetti Subhash said in his statement that the government stands firmly with the victims and their families. He said even though the government has repeatedly told industries to strictly comply with safety norms, repeated accidents show the need for greater accountability and stronger enforcement.

When asked about the privileges to be given to the families, the MLA said the victims were young and their lives were ahead of them.

“The deceased workers were young and had many responsibilities. Their families are largely dependent on them. We will take into account the situation of the affected families and discuss the issue with higher authorities. The decision on compensation and other support measures will be made soon,” he said.
