Justin Trudeau’s ex-wife opens up about lonely ‘uncoupled’ Valentine’s Day as former Canadian PM moves on with Katy Perry

While former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau is in love with pop star Katy Perry, his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau announced that she is single this Valentine’s Day.

‘Good morning my baby. I will accept it. “Apparently, being ‘broken up’ at 50 on Valentine’s Day doesn’t make me feel great,” she wrote in her latest Closer Together newsletter.

Canada’s former First Lady complained that the heart-filled February ‘felt particularly noisy’ for people experiencing ‘middle-life singleness’ but suggested it shouldn’t be seen as a failure.

‘Usually this is a recalibration; It is a moment when the noise becomes quiet enough for us to hear our own voice again.’

Sophie and Justin announced their separation in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage.

Sophie, MD, an Argentinian-born pediatric surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. He moved in with Marcos Bettolli.

Bettolli’s estranged wife, Ana Remonda, alleged in her divorce petition filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice Family Court on April 26, 2023, that her husband “re-partnered with a high-profile individual who attracted media attention and presented significant safety considerations to which the children were exposed while in their father’s custody.”

Sophie and Bettoli have since separated.

“For millions of women (and men!), the answer hasn’t always been simple,” Sophie wrote in the newsletter.

‘We are taught, sometimes gently, sometimes harshly, that our bodies, emotions, and uniqueness must adapt to be accepted.

‘When we spend years reshaping ourselves to adapt, our nervous system learns to be alert rather than comfortable.’

‘In many ways, self-love means being aware of our defense mechanisms and adaptive behaviors.

‘It’s about choosing to unlearn them and change some of our emotional habits.

‘Self-love is a practice. There is security at its core. And security comes from presence.’

While Sophie reflects on love, her ex-husband is moving on and his new relationship with 41-year-old American pop singer Katy Perry looks set to become stronger.

The couple first sparked dating rumors in July and have since formed a tight bond, seen being spotted together frequently.

Following their split, exclusive Daily Mail photos reveal Sophie met with pediatric surgeon Dr Dr in February 2024. It showed that she had moved on with her life with Marcos Bettolli, but the two had since ended their relationship.

Trudeau has since been linked to pop star Katy Perry. They are seen leaving the World Economic Forum event in Davos on January 20

Perry even made a surprise appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month, riding on Trudeau’s arm.

The singer announced her separation from her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, around the time the whispers began; sources claim he is ‘not expecting’.

Katy and Justin’s first hookup took place at her 41st birthday party in Paris in October, just days after footage showed the pair enjoying a steamy boating day.

‘I’m very aware that a lot of public things out there can be triggering. What I do with it is my decision. “It’s my decision as to the woman I want to get through this with,” he said.

‘Does this mean I don’t have feelings? That I didn’t cry, scream, or laugh? NO.

‘I have a particularly sensitive heart, don’t I? But from now on, it’s my decision between emotion and reaction.’

Sophie praised Justin as a good father to his three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 11.

‘I’m definitely not a single mother. ‘I have a partnership with a father who has such deep love and availability for his children.’

In December, Sophie appeared as a special guest on the holiday episode of Chanteurs Masqués, the French-Canadian version of The Masked Singer.

Sophie performed the 1956 classic ‘I Put a Spell On You’ and Quebec singer Charlotte Cardin’s 2017 song ‘Faufile’. In the second, he sings: ‘I’m breaking everything I love.’
