Amateur golfer Kai Trump was on hand at one of the sport’s premier events this week. President Donald Trump’s grandson traveled to the historic Augusta National Golf Club, where he got to see up close some of the world’s best golfers competing for the Masters green jacket.
But Trump went to Georgia knowing five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods would be absent. Woods was arrested following a rollover crash in Florida late last month.
He later announced that he would not compete in this year’s Masters. Court records showed that a judge in Florida allowed the golfer to travel outside the United States to enter a “comprehensive inpatient facility.”

Trump’s mother, Vanessa, has been publicly linked to Woods and showed support by writing “I love you” on an Instagram Stories post featuring the couple following his DUI arrest.
Trump, 18, shared highlights from his visit to Augusta National on Instagram on Thursday, including a photo with LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and caddy Greg Bodine.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida said Woods was traveling at a “high rate of speed” when his vehicle crashed into another car, causing it to roll onto the driver’s side.
Authorities said Woods “exhibited signs of impairment.” He gave a “triple zero” for alcohol but refused a urine test.
“DUI investigators arrived on the scene and Mr. Woods showed signs of impairment. They ran several tests on him. Of course, he disclosed his injuries and surgeries. We took that into account, but they did some in-depth roadside testing,” a sheriff’s department spokesman said.

Woods pleaded not guilty in response to the DUI charges. He stated before his arrest that playing in the first major of the season was a possibility.

Since winning the green jacket in 2019, Woods has failed to place in the top 20 in the 14 events he has participated in. It’s the longest such streak of his career since failing to finish in the top 20 in the first six majors of his career in 1995 and 1996. He has finished in the top 20 only four times in his last 26 majors.
After finishing ninth at the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open, his best finish in 18 official events was a tie for 37th at the 2020 PGA Championship.
Woods hasn’t competed in a professional golf tournament since 2024, when he competed in just five events (the Genesis Invitational and four majors). He withdrew from Genesis, finished last in the Masters and missed the cut in other majors.
