Kansas man charged with attempted murder in stabbing of choir teacher

A Kansas man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed a woman in an unprovoked attack at a park in Olathe, authorities said.
The Olathe Police Department said 27-year-old Kwan Noble Trezvant was arrested Thursday following a report of a shooting that left a 38-year-old woman, identified in court documents as Jamie Trumpp, seriously injured.
Police said they responded at 12:06 a.m. near the 1000 block of North Ridgeview Road and found the woman suffering from stab wounds.

Trumpp was hospitalized for treatment and is expected to survive, according to the Olathe Reporter.
Police told the press that the attack was “completely unprovoked”.
The reporter added that Trumpp was a choir teacher at Indian Trail Middle School and organized a food train fundraiser for community members’ family.

The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office alleged in its complaint that Trezvant slashed Trumpp with a knife in an act of attempted first-degree murder, defined as an attempt to “unlawfully, feloniously, willfully, and intentionally kill a human being.”
Trezvant appeared in court Friday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 26. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

Trezvant previously pleaded guilty in 2024 to a misdemeanor charge of assault on a law enforcement officer and was sentenced to nearly four months in prison.
