Karnataka bus strike: Thousands left stranded in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi & other cities as KSTRC employees announce indefinite strike

Public transport in Karnataka stopped on Tuesday morning while the employees of Karnataka State Road Corporation declared an uncertain strike. The sudden decision caused thousands of daily vehicles to be stranded.

Employees demand a long -standing wage revision and salary debts and strikes were called despite a temporary accommodation given by the Supreme Court of Karnataka.

In big cities such as Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballli, Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Shivamogga and Chikkamagamururu, bus services were suspended or seriously limited, they were looking for several passengers.
There were long queues and overcrowded at the big bus stops. However, in regions like Gadag, it is not a single NWKRTC bus working from more than 500 daily fleets.

While private buses became extremely crowded, the demand for cabins and authority increased. Bengaluru and many passengers in other cities complained about Autorickshaw prices for a walk. The vehicles also criticized the state government for not dealing with the issue earlier even if the deduction was intensified.
Employees have increased concerns about the thinner points of cleaning debts and salary revision. The joint action committee of the transportation unions is unhappy because two of the basic demands have not been met. This includes payment of salary debts (total of 1,785 RS) and a payment hike of 25 percent from 1 January 2024.
The strike follows the degradation of negotiations between the joint action committee of the unions and the government. Employees are demanding a 38 -month salary debts and a paid revision from 1 January 2024. However, the government offered to solve only 14 -month dues, stating the advice of a one -man committee.

The government warned the disciplinary penalty. KSRTC MD Akram Pasha, ‘No business, no payment’ policy is already published and transportation is an important service within the scope of Karnataka Essential Services Maintenance Law. “Since the BMTC provides basic services, employees are asked not to participate in the strike,” BMT MD R Ramachandran said.

In the meantime, the Supreme Court’s counter has expressed concerns about the long delay in wage payments and questioned the state to address the issue.

KSRTC carries more than 1.1 people every day, and 40 lakh people only use UNTC services in Bengaluru. The effect of the strike was widespread.

The situation remains nervous with the uncertainty of how long the strike will last and whether the state will take steps with a review or harder action.
