AIADMK and BJP on Monday (October 13, 2025) welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the September 27 Karur stampede and constitute a three-member monitoring committee to oversee the progress of the CBI investigation.

In a social media post, the AIADMK said it had formed its position based on the principle that “the public has the right to a fair and impartial investigation”, as upheld by the Supreme Court.

To prove that he was not at fault in the incident, Mr. Nagenthran alleged that the DMK government hastily concocted fake stories to blame the other party.

“Soon, answers will emerge to public suspicions that there is a repulsive political motive behind such actions. These despicable individuals who sacrifice innocent lives for the sake of political vendettas will be punished without mercy,” Mr. Nagenthran said.

He alleged that the DMK government was running a dirty campaign against TVK. “The verdict gave hope that the truth will come out and those responsible will be brought to justice,” Mr Murugan said.

Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president GK Vasan also welcomed the Supreme Court order. In his statement, he said, “The political functioning after the incident has created a lot of confusion in people’s minds. Our party is seeking a CBI investigation to bring out the truth.”

Former AIADMK interim general secretary VK Sasikala also termed the court’s verdict as a “big slap in the face” of the DMK government and expressed hope that the truth about the stampede will come out soon.
