Royal Mail issues delivery delay warning to 141 UK postcodes today | UK | News
Royal Mail has issued an update to its service across the UK, warning of delays in hundreds of postcode areas. The delivery company listed 141 areas most affected by delays.
As of Wednesday, July 22, the affected areas include Cambridge, Wolverhampton, Nuneaton, Barry and Carrickfergus. Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses where we receive mail six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may be temporarily unavailable due to local issues such as high levels of sickness absence, resourcing or other local factors.
“In these cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimize delay to individual customers. We are also providing targeted support to these offices to overcome any difficulties they face and return our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.” Over the last 24 hours, Royal Mail’s air and road network operated as planned.
All mail centers also reported that mail was processed and sent as planned. Last year Royal Mail was fined £21 million for failing to meet delivery targets.
Ofcom imposed the penalty after Royal Mail delivered just 77% of First Class mail and 92.5% of Second Class mail on time between 2024 and 2025.
The company is working to improve its goals this year. Jamie Stephenson, Royal Mail’s chief operating officer, said: “We are making significant investments to improve reliability and achieve these new delivery targets, but delivering lasting change across a network of this scale takes time.
“Universal Service reform is a key part of this, helping us adapt the network to reflect the way people send and receive mail today, while preserving one-price, go-anywhere service in the future.
“We have a plan to roll out the new delivery model to all delivery offices across the country by the Christmas peak period and have set clear targets for each quarter as changes are made to the network. Early performance this year shows we are on schedule and heading in the right direction.”
