Katie Boulter: British number three beaten by Eva Lys in Pan Pacific Open

British number three Katie Boulter’s poor form continued as she lost in straight sets to world number 44 Eva Lys in the first round of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

Boulter, 29, lost 6-2 6-1 to the 23-year-old German in just an hour and 14 minutes.

She became the only English player in the main table following the withdrawal of Emma Raducanu, ending the season early due to illness.

The Briton won only 50% of the points on his first serve and was broken five times by Lys.

This latest defeat caps a disappointing run of form that has seen the former world number 29 fail to progress beyond the second round of the tournament since the Nottingham Open in June.

It also came five days after the Briton lost in straight sets to world number 51 Sorana Cirstea in the second round of the Japan Open.
