Harrowing CCTV footage captured the moment a father-of-two desperately struggled to save himself from a horrific escalator crash where commuters passed without stopping to help.

Steven McClusky, 40, got stuck in the machinery after losing his footing while descending the escalators at Davis Station in Massachusetts.

In extremely disturbing footage, more than a dozen people are seen walking past him as they try to break free.

One passenger even stopped and looked before turning around and continuing on his way.

According to the information obtained, McClusky’s jacket got stuck in the escalator mechanism after he lost his balance at the bottom of the stairs.

He frantically unzipped his jacket and tried to free himself, but the fabric squeezed around his neck, severely restricting his breathing. Within minutes he collapsed and lay motionless.

McClusky was found “pinned to the bottom of the escalator,” authorities said, with a report describing him as “unresponsive” and with clothing “tucked tightly into the escalator steps.”

It reportedly took over 20 minutes for a staff member to arrive and activate the emergency stop button.

Paramedics performed CPR at the scene before McClusky was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he remained in a coma for 10 days before succumbing to his injuries on March 9.

“Above all, he loved being a father to his two sons, Shayne and Steven, who meant the world to him,” his father said in a heartbreaking tribute.

The MBTA called the incident a “terrible accident” and urged the public to help those in need. But McClusky’s family said they want the transportation authority to “take responsibility” for his death.

His sister, Shannon Flaherty, said: “That’s the main thing I don’t want is for them to say they didn’t do anything wrong.”

The investigation into the tragedy continues.
