4 Engineering Students Held Hostage, Robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh near Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Four engineering students were allegedly held captive and robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh while they were returning after eating biryani at a popular eaterie on the outskirts of the city, police said on Tuesday.

They said the incident took place on December 21, when the students were returning on two-wheelers from an early morning trip to a restaurant in Hoskote. Police reported that one of the suspects was arrested, and efforts to capture the other suspects are continuing.

According to police, the students are studying in a private college in Bagalur. While returning from the restaurant, they were allegedly stopped by a group of men near a toll booth, who beat them up and took away their mobile phones and two-wheelers.

The gang allegedly took the students to a barracks near Medahalli, held them captive and robbed them. A senior police officer claimed that the attackers took Rs 40,000 in cash and transferred Rs 1.10 lakh from the victims’ bank accounts.

“However, the students later took back their vehicles,” he said. Following a complaint by one of the students, a case was registered at Avalahalli police station under sections related to kidnapping and dacoity. Further investigations are on, the police said.
