MEA Refutes Claims Of Any Modi-Trump Conversation Says, “Not Aware Of Any Conversation Between PM Modi, Trump” | World News
There was no phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump the previous day, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
When asked about Trump’s claim that India will stop buying Russian Oil, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the two leaders did not have any phone conversation on Wednesday.
“On the question of whether there was a conversation or a phone call between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump. I am not aware of any conversation between the two leaders yesterday,” he said.
Jaiswal said the two leaders spoke on October 9, where Prime Minister Modi congratulated Trump on the success of the Gaza peace plan.

“There was a telephone conversation between the Prime Minister and President Trump. It was a conversation in which he congratulated President Trump on the success of the Gaza peace plan, and they also reviewed the progress in trade negotiations and also agreed to stay in contact. This was the information given after the phone call. That’s it,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of PM Modi and Trump being present on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit, Jaiswal said the list of visitors and participants will be announced later.
“First of all, let’s wait for us to announce the visit, the visit will be announced at the appropriate time, then we will see, what program will we inform you about, what are the topics, what are the meetings that will form part of our agreement, but first please wait for our participation in the ASEAN summit to be announced.” he said.
Talking about energy supply, Jaiswal said India’s position was as per the statement made earlier in the day.
“Once again, I ask all of you to carefully review the statement. We have already said what we have to say and I want you to know that you have taken a look at the statement and you know all the issues from our perspective, we are here for you to see how we approach the issue,” he said.
Trump had said on Wednesday (local time) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured him that India would stop buying oil from Russia, describing it as a “big step” in efforts to increase global pressure on Moscow.
Responding to ANI on whether he sees India as a reliable partner, Trump said, “Yes, of course. [PM Modi] a friend of mine. We have a great relationship. I wasn’t happy about India buying oil. And today he assured me that they will not buy oil from Russia. This is a great stop. “Now we must ensure that China does the same.”
Responding to questions on this, India stated that the country’s energy resources are driven by its national interests and the need to protect Indian consumers.
