Kerala Assembly poll results: CPI(M) rebel V. Kunhikrishnan wins Payyannur seat with 7,487 votes, breaking CPI(M) stronghold

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has experienced significant political turmoil. [CPI(M)] supported by rebel and Independent candidate United Democratic Front (UDF) V. Kunhikrishnan defeated CPI(M)’s TI Madhusoodanan. Payyannur Assembly constituency It was the first major rift in the party’s traditional stronghold of Kannur with a decisive margin of 7,487 votes.

Mr. Kunhikrishnan received 76,640 votes while Mr. Madhusoodanan came in second place with 69,153 votes. The victory is notable as Mr. Madhusoodanan secured a landslide victory in the 2021 Assembly elections with a record margin of 49,780 votes, the highest ever recorded in the constituency.
