CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan on Friday (March 27, 2026) claimed that the Congress ensured the victory of the BJP in Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency in 2024 and Nemom Assembly constituency in 2016.
Responding to the allegations of CPI(M)-BJP deal made by the UDF, Mr. Govindan told reporters that the Left party has consistently opposed the RSS and the BJP, while the Congress has held talks with Sangh Parivar leaders, especially under the leadership of VD Satheesan.

He said that the BJP’s only Assembly victory in Kerala came from Nemom, while its only victory in the Lok Sabha was in Thrissur, which he claimed was due to decline in Congress votes.
He noted that the BJP opened an account in Nemom in 2016, but the Left regained the seat in the 2021 Assembly elections.
Citing trends in last year’s local body surveys, he expressed confidence that a similar result could be seen in Thrissur as well.

“In the parliamentary elections, Congress votes in Thrissur fell by 84,000. As a result, the BJP won by 74,000 votes, while our votes increased by 16,000. So who ensured the victory of the BJP?” he asked.
He said voters will understand how the Congress fell to third place in Thrissur.
“In Nemom, UDF votes fell by 29,000, which ensured victory for BJP leader O Rajagopal. But we regained the seat in the subsequent elections,” he said.
Mr. Govindan also alleged that the Congress was an Opposition that stood against development, saying this would be a major challenge for the party in the coming elections.
