Kerala Congress (M) to submit 16-point plan for Meenachil to CM

A 16 -point action plan, which aims to reduce recurrent floods in the Meenachil River Basin, will be presented to the government government by the Kerala Congress (M) holding the water resources portfolio in the state cabinet. The plan requires interventions ranging from restoration of rivers and wetlands to structural and regulatory reforms.

The proposals were formulated based on a symposium held in Kottayam last week. At the center of this, there is a call to increase all obstacles from the source to the mouth of the mouth and to restore a flow of approximately 1,600 streams. Another important suggestion is the revival of paddy cultivation in all appropriate areas to recover the natural water retention capacity of wetlands. The action plan also emphasizes the need for legal protection of the river coast.

Other important suggestions include the permission of controlled screening with the identification of sand rich in the river bed and the public auction and reusing from rivers and sediment for infrastructure projects. It is also recommended to establish a river management authority with judicial powers.

The construction of Czech Dams in Adukkam and Adivaram, the implementation of seasonal water protocols to manage dam operations and the rise of roads in low areas are among other main initiatives. The use of modern technologies for the early warning of floods is also emphasized.

The Kerala Congress (M) will organize follow -up discussions at the regional level to ensure the participation of a wider public. The upcoming symposiums are planned for Erattucpetta and KanjiAppally in the first week of July on June 30 and the first week of July. The people are also invited to send suggestions via e -mail at kcmktm05@gmail.com.

The Kerala Congress (M) Kottayam Regional President Lopez Mathew said that the latest sets of feedback from these public exceptions will be presented to the senior committee managed by the Prime Minister in July.

As the state enters the local organ elections, environmental concerns are at the center of political discourse. In addition to KC (M) attempting to focus on the Meenachil Basin, the competitor’s fraction, led by PJ Joseph, accelerates campaigns by focusing on the worsening state of Vembanad Lake.
