Kerala Opens First Transgender Students’ Hostel at MG University

Kottayam: For the first time in the state, a pension was opened at the campus of Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam, a pension to host only transsexual students. On Monday, the State Social Justice Minister R Bindhu opened the hostel building, which has a long -standing demand of the marginal community students.

The university resources here said that the TG hostel could host at least six students. They also said that the new hostel facility on the university campus is expected to take more students from the transsexual community to higher education.

Minister Bindhu said that there was a remarkable increase in the number of Tranjender students who cleared the Junior Research Scholarship in the state (JRF). “In this case, I appreciate the hostel project initiated by MG University. The marginal community fights with various rates in life. We must provide social support for them.”

The minister, families rejected transsexual people, and therefore a major role in society to play in their lives, he added. A transsexual student said that the hostel facility at the university is a blessing, because they find it difficult to receive accommodation and also to meet the rising amount of rental.
