The Kannur district leadership of the Communist Party of India (CPIM) has issued a legal notice to the organizing general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) KC Venugopal regarding the alleged production of fake Aadhaar cards in Payyanur.

The legal action was initiated by CPI(M) Kannur district secretary KK Ragesh through advocate K. Vishwam of Thalassery.

The move comes in the wake of Mr. Venugopal’s public allegation that fake Aadhaar cards were produced on the third floor of the CPI(M) Payyanur district committee office as part of a plan to manipulate the election process. While delivering the opening speech of an election meeting in Payyanur, he claimed that the CPI(M) was resorting to old tactics out of fear of defeat.

Earlier, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) had complained to the State Election Commission on the issue. Following this, the commission sought a report from the Kannur District Collector.

CPI(M)’s legal notice signals an escalation of the political row as the party seeks to counter what it calls false allegations.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders claimed that the alleged production of fake ID cards pointed to a deliberate attempt at fraud in the elections.

DCC chairman Martin George echoed similar claims, stating that the production of fake identity documents was aimed at disrupting the democratic process.
