Kerala Woman Pushed Off Moving Train by Drunk Man near Varkala

Thiruvananthapuram: Regarding the incident, the FIR stated that a female passenger, who was pushed from a moving train by a drunk man near Varkala, was attacked after she refused to come out of the doorway. According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Suresh Kumar (50) of Panachamoodu, allegedly pushed Sreekutty, 20, of Palode, out of the train in anger.

Hospital officials said that the injured woman’s condition was improving but she remained in intensive care. Thiruvananthapuram Railway Police registered a case of attempt to murder against Kumar under Article 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Sreekutty and his friend Archana (19) from PTP Nagar were traveling from Aluva to Thiruvananthapuram in an unreserved coach of the Kerala Express here when the incident took place.

The FIR stated that the accused angrily kicked Sreekutty’s back and pushed him out of the moving train after he refused to leave the doorway. The FIR also said that Archana screamed for help, after which the accused grabbed her hand and leg and tried to push her out too.

The case was registered based on Archana’s complaint. Police said a medical examination confirmed that Kumar was drunk. He had reportedly taken a bus from Kottayam without reservation. Police registered his arrest and Kumar will be produced in court later.

Sreekutty, who sustained serious injuries in his head and abdominal area, is receiving treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. An official said a team of doctors will examine the woman’s condition and decide on surgery. The incident took place shortly after the Kerala Express left Varkala railway station around 8.30 pm.

When Sreekutty and Archana came out of the washroom, the accused allegedly attacked them. Passengers pulled the emergency chain and notified the police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). A search was launched and the woman was found lying on the tracks about two kilometers from Varkala station.

He was first taken to Varkala railway station by MEMU train and then transferred to a nearby private hospital. Considering that his condition was critical, he was later shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The accused, caught by RPF personnel, was handed over to the Railway Police at Kochuveli station.

Archana later told reporters that both she and Sreekutty were attacked without provocation. “He threw her off the train and then tried to pull me down, but I managed to escape when other passengers pulled me up,” he said.
