Dozens hospitalised after factory incident in Derrimut
Two dozen workers were taken to hospital after a carbon monoxide leak at a factory in Melbourne’s west on Monday afternoon.
According to Fire Rescue Victoria, emergency services were called to the pork processing plant at Benn Court in Derrimut at around 12.45pm.
“Fire crews found that 60 people had been evacuated from the factory and that many others were suffering from the effects of exposure to carbon monoxide,” FRV said.
“FRV crews assisted patients by administering oxygen therapy until Ambulance Victoria arrived on scene.”
Ambulance Victoria said in a statement just after 3pm that crews were still at the scene and specific patient information was not yet available.
“Twenty-four patients were transported by road ambulance to Western Health Sunshine, Western Health Footscray, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Werribee Mercy Hospital,” a spokesman said.
“All patients, including those transferred, are believed to be in stable condition.”
