Madhya Pradesh govt transfers 11 IAS officers in late-night reshuffle; Congress flags move

Bhopal: In a major administrative overhaul, the Madhya Pradesh government transferred 11 IAS officers late night on Saturday; The opposition Congress claimed that the move was aimed at protecting “corrupt” officials in the tax department.

As per the order issued by the General Administration Department at around 1.55 am, additional chief secretary Ashok Barnwal has been appointed as head of the health department, replacing Sandeep Yadav, who has been appointed principal secretary of forests.

Yadav was also given the post of principal secretary of the NRI department.

Senior IAS officer Manish Singh has once again been appointed as commissioner of the public relations department and will continue to hold additional charge as transport secretary.

Public relations commissioner Deepak Saxena, who has been in office for four months, has been appointed as excise commissioner, replacing Abhijit Agrawal, who has been appointed as the managing director of the State Cooperative Marketing Federation.


Agrawal’s transfer took place before the implementation of the new consumption policy.
Among other officials, Ajay Gupta has been transferred from his post as director of farmer welfare and agriculture development and has been appointed as general manager of Eastern Region Power Distribution Corporation, Jabalpur. Umashankar Bhargava returned from Raj Bhavan after eight months to hold the post of director of farmer welfare and agriculture development.

The decision stated that Bhind district panchayat CEO Sunil Dubey has been appointed as deputy secretary to the governor, while higher education department deputy secretary Sanghmitra Gautam has been appointed as the CEO of Alirajpur district panchayat.

Agar Malwa district panchayat CEO Nanda Bhalave Kushre has been appointed as additional project director of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, while school education department deputy secretary Kamal Solanki has been appointed as the CEO of Raisen district panchayat.

Reacting to the changes, the Madhya Pradesh Congress alleged protection of corrupt elements in the excise department and also cited allegations of irregularities in Indore and deaths due to poisoned liquor in Jabalpur.

“Transferred, but what about liability?” he said in a post on party X.

“Abhijit Agrawal gave shelter to corrupt elements in the excise department; Rs 75 crore fake challan in Indore, over 15 deaths due to poisoned liquor in Jabalpur – no action taken! Sterling Distilleries are just the beginning!” wrote.
