King Charles selling boozy Christmas puddings based on Queen Elizabeth’s recipe

King Charles is serving up a feast fit for royalty, and shoppers can now get a taste of it.

The monarch is selling alcoholic Christmas puddings inspired by the late Queen Elizabeth’s own family recipe at her Sandringham estate shop in Norfolk.

Priced at £19.99, the large puddings are packed with raisins, sultanas, mixed crust, breadcrumbs, sherry and brandy and are described as being traditionally made and left to mature for maximum flavour.

A spokesperson for Sandringham said the puddings were “perfect for family gatherings or single-serve treats”, adding that time had allowed the “fabulous flavors to fully develop”. Smaller versions are also available for £6.99.

Although inspired by the Queen’s recipe, it has a few royal tweaks. Elizabeth’s original version featured the famous ale and dark rum; these materials were not included in the Sandringham edition.

The royal love of Christmas puddings runs deep. In 2019, the Queen, Charles, Prince William and Prince George were filmed putting together a party for the Royal British Legion initiative, dropping lucky sixpence along the way.

Continuing a tradition started by his grandfather, King George V, Charles gifts around 1,500 Christmas puddings to palace staff each year; each of these is accompanied by a festive card from the Crown.
