Former NFL QB Robert Griffin III describes harrowing engine fire on United flight
Former Heisman-winning quarterback and NFL star Robert Griffin III was on a plane that had to make an emergency landing on Friday, according to a social media video posted by the signal caller.
Griffin, 36, released the footage late Friday night and claimed the United plane’s right engine “caught fire” after takeoff while flying from Houston.

Beyond a good airport bar that I enjoy, there is NOTHING fun about flying.
Frankly, the worst part is that your engine could catch fire in the middle of the sky. If I had seen this from my cramped window seat I would have fainted. And there’s nothing you can do about it except send a few prayers to the Big Guy upstairs and hope for the best. You’re just weak.
Anyway, I’m glad RGIII is back safe and sound. The former Baylor star won the Heisman in 2011 and was selected second overall by the Washington Redskins the following season. He was a superstar in his first year out of college; He led Washington to the NFC East title and earned a Pro Bowl nod along the way.
