Knicks guard Jose Alvarado nearly crushes Michael Bloomberg diving into stands

Sitting courtside at a basketball game comes with its own inherent danger, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg nearly learned the hard way Monday night.

In the 3rd game between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, the free ball bounced towards the 84-year-old billionaire. Knicks guard Jose Alvarado ran into the stands and nearly crushed Bloomberg in the process.

Alvarado checked to see if Bloomberg was okay, and he was. Bloomberg appeared to reject any help from staff on the sidelines. Even comedian Dave Chappelle came to check in on the former politician.

Spurs lead by four points with 10:36 left in the game. San Antonio won 115-111 and finally clinched a spot in the series. Victor Wembanyama led his team with 32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals.

“I really tried to relax,” Wembanyama said. “The playoffs are a whirlwind. It’s hard to keep your head above water, and sometimes it feels like I don’t even have to watch the game.

“I just need some rest, let my brain cool down and heal; heal for my body as well as my mind.”

Knicks star Jalen Brunson led New York with 32 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Alvarado came off the bench and scored 4 points in 12 minutes.
