Kris Lees banking on weight of numbers at Newcastle races on Tuesday
Top local trainer Kris Lees is relying on weight in numbers to give him plenty of Christmas cheer at the Wine Country Racing Club meeting at the Beaumont circuit in Newcastle on Tuesday.
The Lees will have eight runners in five of the seven races, starting with Golden Smile in the Davali Yearlings @ Classic Class 1 & Maiden Plate (2100m).

Andrew Gibbons was aboard Golden Smile when he finished second to Doradus at the last start at Newcastle at the end of November and the jockey continued racing at Tuesday’s event.
Lees said of Golden Smile: “She is an imported filly who won the filly at Newcastle in May this year and has received a number of placements since joining the stable.” he said.
“He raced quickly on his last start at Newcastle and fought strongly for second and if he can repeat that then he must be very hard to hold on again.”
Lees will have three runners ready to make the rounds in The Adviser Collective C,G&E Maiden Plate (1150m) with Irresistibility (Benjamin Osmond), Mega Pixel (Aaron Bullock) and Surpasser (Regan Bayliss).
“Irresistibility has only made a start and should be improved further after finishing sixth at Taree,” Lees said. “Mega Pixel has been in both starts and is knocking on the door for the win. Surpasser is making his debut after three attempts in total and hopefully he can perform well.”
Starter Oakfield Iowa will represent Lees in the Spartan Central Coast Feb F&M Maiden Plate (1150m) with Ashley Morgan riding from a wide gate.
