P.The then Minister Narendra Modi left for Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday morning (November 21, 2025) to attend the first G20 summit held in Africa. “In line with our vision, we will present India’s perspective at the G20 summit,” he said before leaving for his three-day visit. He is also expected to attend the sixth IBSA Summit on the sidelines of the summit.

“This will be a particularly special Summit, given that it will be the first G20 Summit held in Africa. The African Union became a member of the G20 during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023.” Prime Minister Modi said this in his departure statement.

Leaders of the 20-nation group will meet for a summit this weekend without any US representatives after President Donald Trump announced a boycott over widely rejected claims that the host country was oppressing the Afrikaner white minority. Chinese leader Xi Jinping will not attend the meeting as he restricts international travel.
