MP/ CM Yadav Moves Resolution Supporting 33 Percent Reservation For Women In Parliament, Assemblies, In House

-Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday introduced a resolution in a one-day special session of the Assembly supporting 33 per cent reservation for women in parliament and state assemblies; Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress refused to allow the speaker to pass a special bill demanding immediate implementation of reservation for the fair sex.

The one-day special session of Parliament was called to increase support for the women’s quota bill, which was rejected in the Lok Sabha recently.

Mr. Yadav had earlier stated that the no-confidence motion against the Opposition over the rejection of the women’s quota bill would be passed in the special session of the Parliament.

The parliament continued to deliberate on the resolution presented by the prime minister until the final reports arrived.

After the parliament passed the death motion in tribute to late singer Asha Bhonsle, Congress Legislative Assembly Party leader Umang Singhar wanted to move a special bill seeking immediate discussion and implementation of the Women Reservation Act passed by the parliament in 2023.

However, Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar refused to pass the bill, ruling that the government resolution planned to be moved by the prime minister on the issue had already been listed.

Parliamentary affairs minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and BJP MLA Sitasharan Sharma argued that a government proposal under rules and conventions takes precedence over a private bill.

However, senior Congress leader Bala Bachhan supported his colleague Mr Singhar, leading to heated exchanges between the treasury and Opposition benches.

The Opposition Congress held a march in the parliament after the speaker decided to take the government decision into discussion.
