Farmers are afraid that the Labor Party has returned to the manifesto hostage to ensure that the public sector purchases the British. The rural alliance warned that farmers’ new food strategy did not determine how the public wallet can be used to increase British agriculture.

David Bean from the rural Alliance said: “For half of the food purchased and served through Labor’s public sector, the target produced for local, British or higher environmental standards was one of the most promising things in the manifesto last year. It is a real disappointing opportunity to publish a food strategy that was completely ignored, and for the Farmers and Food Producers.

Shadow Environmental Secretary Victoria Atkins said: “The word of the Labor Party to make half of all the food purchased through the public sector to the local, British or high standard was one of the commitments, but now they are quietly throwing.
“The worker speaks a good game, but his actions tells a different story. They could not protect rural communities and are moving with a disastrous family farm tax. A open attack on the future of rural Britain, nurturing our nation and British farming.
“Conservatives will withstand rural Britain by protecting family farms, supporting local products and providing real food safety. Labor cannot be trusted to support our farmers.”
