Man charged with attempted murder in crossbow shooting in Long Island

A Long Island man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a victim, reported by local media as his sister, in the face with a crossbow.

According to the Nassau County Police Department in New York, the suspect in the crime that allegedly occurred on February 13 is 21-year-old Samy Sedhom.

“According to detectives, officers responded to a residence on West Avenue for an assisted case. Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old female bleeding from a laceration on the right side of her face,” a statement on Monday said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Sedhom was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree tampering with evidence and first-degree stalking.

The attempted murder charge carries a penalty of up to 25 years in prison if Sedhom is convicted.

Court records show he first appeared Wednesday, pleaded not guilty and was held without bail. A temporary protection order was also issued for the victim.

KABC reported that Sedhom tried to shoot the victim as he walked into the garage after returning from the gym. Police allegedly found an arrow stuck in the wall of the garage. They also reportedly searched his room and found a box matching a crossbow, a Katana samurai sword, and a computer, all of which were confiscated.

As of Wednesday, Sedhom’s name was not on the Nassau County jail list.
