Perth-bound Qantas flight passengers diverted following mechanical smell

A Qantas flight from Canberra to Perth was diverted to Adelaide overnight due to a mechanical smell on board.
Flight QFA85 to Adelaide was given priority landing permission as it arrived at 1am after curfew hours at the airport.
Some passengers opted to spend the night in the lounge for a few hours, while others went to the hotels offered before boarding another flight early on Saturday.
The new flight, Qantas 883, landed in Perth at 7.53am.
Qantas apologized to passengers.
“We know this will be a frustrating experience for our customers and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience,” a spokesperson said.
“Passengers were reaccommodated on flights from Adelaide this morning to continue their journey to Perth.”
