A wonk’s guide to Australian progressive politics

A political gain that declares itself explains the amazing party system of Australia, why it has green votes and how global chaos echoed with our choices, Dr Alex Vickery-Howe writes.
“Wonk” is one of my favorite words. We should use more.
It expresses a person who is obsessed with a narrow area, most of the political field. Many of them can choose to use other words to describe me – at least one starts with the ‘W’ letter – I proudly wear “Wonk”. I can speak politics for hours. I can put the senators to sleep. I visited once Alexander downrAlexander is the office to scold him because it is Downer. He was Foreign Minister In that case And, albeit cheerfully, Trifling was bored of my presence.
In the United States and the United Kingdom, some of them have family and friends who are interested in the results of the last Australian federal elections. Or like a downright, he is willing to spoil me for a few minutes. Our political system is a mystery for most of the world, so I thought that I would get this opportunity to explain who the big players were, what it was, and why this Wonk was making the vote of progress.
I will also emphasize how global activities affect this Australian competition. In particular, the harsh rejection of the political left in the United States has turned one of our candidates into a Trumpian student, even if it was not an emulator, social dissatisfaction Between the working class voters and algorithm Separation of society. We learned that the game shows did not work for Australia.
So now come with me – Wonk’s guide.
In Australia, many of them, including me, foresee a close call between the Labor Party and the liberal-national coalition. Historically, these were two dominant political parties. However, for people outside Australia, our party -based terminology does not make sense.
I will try to take it out.
The Labor Party, as expected, is roughly similar to the Labor Party in England. We decided to be different and left ‘u’ in labor. We prisoners like to rebel. Actually, Proposes evidence We did this in part because of the American influence. For those in the United States, the closest analogy to our Labor Party would be your Democratic Party, but at least in the conversations, labor would be defined as left -wing tendency.
In the meantime, the liberal-national coalition is closer to the Tories in the UK or the Republicans in the United States, a coalition is an alliance between the two conservative yarns that act as if they were looking at the eye while negotiating a fragile urban/rural division. The place where it is ridiculous Vis-Vie The word “liberal ı is mostly linked to our traditionalist mainstream party. I had students who were deceived and voted for the wrong people. “Coalition” is a more useful way to remember them.
Some interviewers foresee the majority of this election workmanship, while others said the coalition could win seats. Surveyors may also be reading tea leaves at this point. The mood on the street is separatist. I wasn’t sure what to expect in the shadow of President Trump’s win.
Returning around the leading parties are much smaller but effective groups extending to both the extreme left and the extreme right. This election, we even met a group Trumpet of patriots. They sound like members at nominal value The most terrible orchestra in the worldBut in fact, a fringe party ruled by Jabba Hutt mining With enough money to try to build a new Titanic, it is not enough to directly contribute to many reasons it reads from an automatic way.

I say “Be”, but I think ”” may be more appropriate. The party is over.
Apparently, the trumpet of the patriots brought together a list of candidates in about four weeks – nothing like a veterinarian process of “patriotism”. As far as I know, none of them showed a talent for the trumpet, so we assume that voters are the ‘Trump’ part of the ‘Trump’, which they want to focus. A few These enthusiastic politicians are in legal hot waters or confronting criminal charges. I think this is doing this comparison bar.
While talking about legal hot water, convicted fraud Pauline Hanson Australia continues to be another important player on the far -right side of the political division, and a nation party has chased news titles since my youth. We thought that Drag Queen was booting him at any public relevance in the 1990s. Pauline pantsdown He rose to fame but he Still there With something like reputation and this is an indictment for us. It is surprising to me that Pauline’s political career lasts long enough Be a dynasty.
Does this Wonk expect these meaningless parties to be on the parliamentary table in the elections? Yeah, probably. The class section in Australia is still very real. Labor cannot afford to like it. I will go instantly.
First, I have to take myself out by revealing my own political prejudice. As always, I gave my vote for our most conscious party for the Australian greens. This surprises my colleagues because I criticize the greens – but hey, enjoying a good Whinge.
My defense of the Outgoing Australian Greater Leader is always at best, even though it is qualified, I still give assurance to everyone at home Hurry to “educate me” My preference vote – again – again – not to be “pleasant enough ım that I use to put the greens in the first place, ultimately knowing that there will be a vote for the Australian Labor Party and the Prime Minister Anthony Arbanese in the position.
One can criticize his own team. For the development of a democracy, we should always draw more attention to the issues that move us – or perhaps – especially – from the people we have made.
Preferential voting is a gift that Australians should celebrate. It allows us to send a message to big parties and direct politics. Or at least nustrate. I like to mark each box and remind my local member to think more about the planet’s situation. Dirty donations.

A former friend working for the Australian Labor Party advised them to adopt climate consciousness and animal -friendly policy, and encouraged my vote to use it in this way because it was considered a vote for labor. USA readers, please take note: Preferential voting can save you. Ultimately Donald Trump or Kamala HarrisHowever, sending them a clear message along the way provides valuable data to the parties about what voters actually want.
I always want what I want. Less persecution. More compassion. Gradual values. Considering this, I support the Prime Minister Albanian, but I hope that some of these wider messages in the environment are cut. Labour’s recording on this issue was less than the ideal.
And so, we still come to the election for those who play abroad: a landslide for Albanian and labor and a defeat for the opposition leader Peter Dutton. The greens are more excessively left to the left; The trumpets remained silent on the extreme right. There is a clear central left authority from this result.
Friends working for the worker texted the night, ‘Now we are the director’s natural choice’But I’m very cautious about it.
I accepted Annabel Crabb:
“In a bilateral election, the people rejected Dutton, but this life cost problems will not disappear.”
International Friends know what to happen Left likes herself And Class struggles were neglected. Not being able to close the gap for the next four years will be the terminal for the labor force. Ignore the ongoing concerns Ethical around sustainability.
This Wonk will watch to see which direction the national mood is returning. But he will return. No party is “natural choice” forever.
Finally, for those who are outside Australia, the only thing you really needed to know about our national policy is that there were two great men who were victorious on the election night. One of them is the Prime Minister; the other A questionnaire, a personality and a legend. We’il miss you, Mr. Green.
