Woman sexually assaulted in vehicle at bus stop

Police said a woman in her 30s was sexually assaulted on the road after getting into the vehicle.

Sussex Police said the victim was in Bognor Regis town center in West Sussex on Thursday evening when he broke into a vehicle near the Tesco Express store on Station Road.

Police said the vehicle, believed to be silver or grey, stopped at a bus stop on the A259 near the junction with Marsh Lane in Merston and the driver then sexually assaulted the victim between 23:30 GMT on Thursday and 1am on Friday.

The driver is described as a man in his 30s or 40s, of South Asian ethnicity, with short, dark, curly hair.

Police said the victim was able to escape to safety before reporting the incident.

Officers are keen to trace anyone who was in the Station Road area near Tesco or who may have seen the vehicle leaving Bognor Regis.

Arun and Chichester area commander Ch Insp Adam McCaig said: “We continue to work closely with our partners as the investigation progresses and we will have officers carrying out additional patrols in the area over the weekend to provide reassurance.”

Anyone with dashcam or doorbell camera footage is asked to contact police.
